NRS Documentary

ANR Communications, based at UC Davis, worked with the NRS systemwide staff to produce a series of television programs on the NRS. These included a 7-minute overview of the entire system, as well as half hour programs on five individual reserves -- Coal Oil Point, Hastings, James San Jacinto Mountains, Landels-Hill Big Creek, and Sedgwick. Each program highlights the reserve’s natural features, its history, and current research programs. Originally aired via satellite on University of California Television (UCTV), the programs are now available in full via video-on-demand at UCTV’s web site, http://www.uctv.tv.

Coal Oil Point Reserve

One of the best remaining examples of a coastal-strand environment in Southern California, the University of California Natural Reserve System's (NRS) Coal Oil Point Reserve protects a wide variety of coastal and estuarine habitats. Thousands of migratory birds visit throughout the year. Located adjacent to the Santa Barbara campus, the reserve provides a unique and accessible research and teaching resource, which is used by many university courses, including botany, ecology, biodiversity field methods, natural history, marine biology, invertebrate zoology, and environmental studies.
