NRS Mildred E. Mathias Graduate Student Research Grant Program

The Natural Reserve System provides grants to support graduate students at all UC campuses except UCSF for their independent and field science studies at NRS reserves. These grants not only encourage students to conduct research, but also provide experience in applying for grants, meeting deadlines, and managing a budget. Awardees are expected to produce a paper or report, or present their findings in a suitable forum.

The 2011-12 Mathias Grant application period will commence on August 24, 2011. On or after that date you may send an e-mail to mathiasgrants@ucnrs.org to request an application for this year's Mathias grant competition. You will need a Google Docs account in order to track the progress of your application and to view comments made about it by campus and systemwide evaluators. While not essential, it will simplify the process if you already have a Google Docs account when you request the application, and if you use the e-mail address associated with your Google Docs account to request the application. You can establish a free Google Docs account in about a minute at http://docs.google.com. The applicant's portion of the application must be submitted no later than 8:00 AM on Monday, October 17, 2011. A letter of recommendation and written permission to use all reserves associated with your project are due nine days later.
